The good-sized sculpture 'the Time of the Century' stands aloft at the inter-junction of the Century Boulevard and Laoshan West Road. Using the Chinese ancient time marker, "sand-glass", as the original mold, is a group of good-sized urban sight sculptures expressed in modern sculpture language. The main characteristic is its symbolism. The columns in the sculpture group all have various names, such as the century column, the decade column, the year column, the stem-branch column, the moon column, the week column, the counting-nine column, the earthly branch column, the time column and the leak-engraved column. Having the originality of Mr. Wu Guorong and his colleagues from the Chinese Fine Arts Academy and experienced the amendments towards the scheme and models repeatedly under the guidance of Mr. Chen Yifei, the group of sculptures was made by Shanghai Tonghua High Speed Vessel Engineering Company Ltd. It is the biggest "sand-glass" in the world at present and the ideal combination of the urban sculpture art language and the high-tech construction language nowadays. Shining brilliantly in the company of the whole modern architectures in Pudong, the sculpture group has become one of the sight marks in the series of sculptures on the Century Boulevard. is uniquely composed of nine high and low stainless-steel columns inlaid with glass. The highest column is 13.2 meters tall. According to the pattern of the planet orbits diverging the center of a circle in the form of parabola, the nine columns are arranged in the scope with the diameter of 22 meters. What is unusual is that every column is a "sand-glass" in fact. Every two or five days, when the sand in a "sand-glass" leaks up, the electric pump below will pump up the sand. The concept of modern dynamic sculpture has been introduced to this sculpture works.
