Pudong International Deep-Water Port

ĦĦĦĦLocated in Pudong New Area, the Waigaoqiao New Port is the main harbor of Shanghai's planned new port. Waigaoqiao New Port is composed of the Gaoqiaozui District and the No.5 Channel. The Gaoqiaozui District has a coastal line of 1.8 kilometers. With a coastal line of 6.2 kilometers, the No.5 Channel will be built into a large deep-water port capable of receiving container ships of the third and fourth generations. In the Waigaoqiao New Port there can be built 49 over-10,000-ton-class berths and some medium and small berths, with a yearly handling capacity of 50.4-million-ton cargoes, including 5.25 million standard containers. The Waigaoqiao New Port project is divided into 4 phases and will be completed in 2020. During the period between 1996 and 1997, one billion RMB yuan will be first invested to build three 35,000-ton-class berths.
