New Shanghai Hotel(designated tentatively) is situated in Wujiaochang of Yangpu District which is the submunicipal commercial center by the general development plan of Shanghai. Within these confines there are 7 terminal bus stations,3 transit bus lines, and more than 500,000 passengers passing by every day. The under-construction first light rail line and the No.3 subway will pass here. To the south the district links up the Yangpu Bridge and the Inner-ring Road and to the west it faces the biggest commercial center named Dabaishu and several office buildings where station the local offices of other cities and provinces,. To the north it borders Zhongyuan and Jiangwan residential quarters. To the east lies the Huangpu River. It only takes one forty minutes to drive eastward to the Hongqiao International Airport and southward to Yangpu Bridge---the world's first stayed-cable bridge. Within 20 minutes one can also drive to Pudong New Area and then to the Pudong International Airport which is under construction now. In short, one can easily reach this hotel. Within the district there scatter various famous universities such as Fudan University,Tongji University, the Second Army Medical University,and so on. Because of the advantage of having abundant sophisticated techchnicians, a life-science park focused on the biological engineering is planned to be constructed . The largest entertainment park(occupying a site area of 130 hectares ) which includes sightseeing, tourism,shopping and recreational activities is only a very short distance away.

The functions of Wujiaochang(the submunicipal commercial center) are commerce,finance and recreation. The New Shanghai Hotel to be erected is designed to be a super four-star guesthouse. The building occupies a site area of 8,986 square meters. It is enclosed by Songhu Road in the west, Xiangying Road in the south, Zhengyi Road in the north and Guoji Road in the east. The whole building consists of a main building of 58 storeys and a lower subsidiary of 5 storeys. Between them there is a courtyard with glass canopy and screen walls. There is also a basement of three floors. The car entrance and the entrance for the staff are designed to be located by the Guoji Road and away from the traffic arteries. In the basement there can park 220 cars. The entrance of the hotel is in the south,where there is a square with a temporary parking lot. On the west side there is an entrance to the courtyard.
