Camel Xiangzi(Luotuo Xiangzi, C-1983, VC)---The ups and downs of a rickshaw boy named Xiangzi are described in this screen rendering of the widely acclaimed novel, " Rickshaw Boy," by Lao She, one of modern China's greatmen of letters. Xiangzi works hard and keeps away from drinking and gambling so he can save enough to buy his own rickshaw. However, although he marries a rickshaw owner's daughter, he has to sell everything he owns to bury her. The film won the best supporting actress prize at the 1983 Golden Rooster Awards. Chess King(Qi Wang , C-1989, VC)---Set during the " cultural revolution" (1966-76) in the countryside of sichuan province, this film is about a young man from Beijing who has a talent for playing chess. It is one of the experimental movies. D: Teng Weiji; C: XieYuan, Lihui; M: Xi'an.

Cockfighting(Dou Ji, C-1990)---A comedy with a message: people who gamble not only lose their money, but their honesty, dignity and human feelings. The story surrounds a young farmer who falls in love with a pretty girl from the same village. The girl's mother, however, dislikes him because he is too honest and does not know how to make money. One day, the farmer comes across a lost gamecock and destiny takes him down quite different road. The lead actor, Chen Yude, won the best supporting actor prize at the 14th Hundred Flowers Awards. Code Name"American Leopard" (Daihao Meizhoubao, C-1989, VC)--- Set in 1988, this film is about an aeroplane hijacking and how Beijing and Taibei authorities co-operate to successfully deal with the incident. GongLi, who plays a stewardess, won best supporting actress prize at the 12th Hundred Flowers Awards.D: Zhangyimou, YangFengliang; C: Liu Xiaoning, Ge You, Gong Li; M: Xi'an.

Crescent Moon(Yueya'er, C-1987, VC)---An adaptation of a novel of the same title by the famous author Lao She, Yuerong's father dies when she is very young and penury forces her mother into prostitution, something for which Yuerong cannot forgive her. She leaves home and lives at school. After graduation she cannot find a job and lives with a man, whom she discovers is married. Later she becomes a waitress, but her refusal to sleep with the customers loses her the job. In the end she has no choice but to follow her mother's footsteps. Crossroads(shizi jietou, BW-1937, VC)--- The film is about a group of college graduates who can't find jobs and feel at loss about what to do. Encouraged by one of their schoolmates who joins the anti-Japanese army in the north, they all later follow suit and join the revolution. D: Shen Xiling; C: Bai Yang, Zhao Dan; M: Mingxing.

Crows and Sparrows (Wuya Yu Mayue, Bw-194949, VC)---The story of a battle between the motley tenants in a Shanghai tenement house and their profiteering landlord. The metaphor in its title, with"crows" referring to corrupt officials and " sparrows" to ordinary residents, shows how the poor people can unite to defeat class enemies.
