Tan Sitong ( Tan Sitong, C-1985, VC ) --- This epic movie tells the story of the Constitutional Reform and Modernization Movement in 1898 through the figure of Tan Sitong, a reformist who was killed by Empress Dowager CiXi. Teahouse( chaguan, C-1983, VC ) --- The rise and fall of a teahouse in the first half of this century are described in this film adaptation of a famous stage play of the same title by Lao She, one of the great playwrights in modern China. The teahouse is a gathering placing for people of various social strata. The cast includes many of the top actors and actresses form Beijing People's Art Theatre. Three Weddings a Day( Gao-peng Manzuo, C-1991)--- Made by the Changchun Film Studio, this film takes a comic look at the different attitudes people have towards life, love and ideals, and criticizes the evil-doings of corrupt officials. A new house has been reserved specially for newlywed, so three couples waste no time in getting married and rush to take possession. Thunderstorm ( Leiyu C-1985, VC) --- Based on a play of the same title by Cao Yu, One of the great modern Chinese playwrights, this film deals with the intense conflicts between the feudalist power and the forces fighting it. Tracks in the Snowy Forest ( Lin-hai Xue-yuan, 1960, VC ) --- Adapted from " Taking the Tigher Mountain by Strategy, " an episode of a novel of the same name by Qu Bo, the film is about a detachment of the People's Liberation Army tracking down a gang of Bandits in the snow-capped mountains of northeast China in late 1940s. True Story of Ah Q ( Ah Q Zhengzhuan, C-1982, VC )---An adaptation of the novel of the same title by Lu Xun- one of the giants of modern Chinese literature- this film is a comedy produced by Shanghai Film Studio. Yan Shunkai in the title role has audiences laughing until they cry. Ah Q embodies almost all the bad characteristics of the Chinese. Yan's exceptional performance who him " The Gold Stick Prize" at the Second International Festival of Comedy Films in Vevey, Switzerland in 1983.
