Narrow Street (Xiaojie, C-1982, VC) --- Produced by the Shanghai Film Studio, this film tells a sentimental story of two young lovers separated during the "cultural revolution" (1966-1976). It examines not only the disaster the turmoil brought ordinary lives, but explores how the people's psyche was affected by the political and social chaos. New Year's Sacrifice ( Zhufu, C- 1956, VC ) --- A woman is considered the embodiment of bad luck when she twice becomes widow in this film adapted from a story of same title by Lu Xun, one of China's most prominent modern writers. D: Sang Hu; C: Bai Yang, Wei Heling, Li Jingbo; M: Beijing.

Nie Er ( Nie Er, C-1959, VC) --- The composer who wrote many musical scores in the 1930s, including " The March of the Volunteers, " which was selected as the national anthem after new China was founded, is documented in this film. Night Rain (Bashan Yeyu, , C-1981, VC) --- This film is set on a Yangtaze River voyage from Sichuan to Wuhan during the "cultural revolution. " A poet, Qiu Shi, condemned as counterrevolutionary, is being taken to a prison. One of his two escorts is a middle-aged man who remains seemingly neutral till the end of the story when he helps the poet escape. The other is a Red Guard schoolgirl who is at first hostile to the poet but later comes to understand him an d, finally, also helps him escape.
