Magical Earth, ( Shenqi De Tudi, C-1985) --- Based on a novel of the same title by Liang Xiaosheng, this film is about four urban youths who were sent to a farm in north China during the " cultural revolution". They fight against the elements and various other difficulties. One youth dies in a marsh, one is eaten by wolves and another dies of illness. Making of a New Era ( Kaitian-pidi, C-1991)--- This epic is about the founding of the communist Party of China 70 yea5rs ago, from the May Fourth Movement in 1919 to the first congress of the Party in July 1921. Pioneers of the revolution, such as Li Dazhao, Chen Duxiiu and Mao Zedong, are portrayed. D: Li Xiepu; C: Shao Honglai, Sun Jitang, Wang Ying; M: Shanghai.

Mao Zedong and His Son ( Mao Zedong He Ta De Erzi, C-1991) --- Mao Zedong is portrayed as an ordinary man with common human feeling and weaknesses. This is the first film that shows Mao in his home setting, and examines his personal feelings towards his relatives, especially his personal feelings towards his relatives, especially his tremendous grief over the death of his son who died fighting in Korea. Massacre in Nanjing ( Tucheng Xuezheng, C-1988, VC) --- This movie is based on the Japanese occupation of Nanjing in the fall of 1937 when tens of thousands of citizens were slaughtered over a six-week period. Midnight (Ziye,C-1982, VC ) --- This film produced by Shanghai Film Studio, is an adaptation of a novel of the same title by Mao Dun, one of the great modern Chinese writers. The story is about the business dealing and events in the life of industrialist Wu Sunpu. Minefields and Yearning for Love ( Leichang Xiangsi Shu, C- 1987, VC)---Special prize winner of the Golden Rooster Awards and winner of the Excellent Film Award by the Ministry of Radio, Film and Television, this war film portrays five university-graduate military officers in the 1979 war against Viet Nam. Misplaced ( Cuowei, C-1987, VC )---A sequel to the prize-winning " Black Cannon Incident" of 1985, the satirical comedy exposes and criticizes bureaucracy and the burden of numerous meetings on officials, one of whom has made a robot to take part in various meetings for him. Missing Girl Student, ( (Shizong De Nu Zhongxuesheng, C-1987, VC )--- The 14-year-old Wang Jia sees a handsome music student on a train and becomes infatuated with him.. After trailing him for weeks, she is completely distracted from her schoolwork but finally discovers he already has a girlfriend. Returning home dejected, she finds unsympathetic mother waiting to censure her. Wang Jia becomes a runaway and her father sets out in search of her. Model Husband ( Mofan Zhangfu, C-1982)---Centring on the differences between two families, this comedy has won more criticism than acclaim. One of the families is headed by an engineer who is wrapped up in his work and dumps all the house chores onto his wife, a doctor. My Memories of Old Beijing ( Cheng Nan Jiushi, c-1983, VC) --- The lives of ordinary Beijingers through the eyes of a title Taiwanese girl in the 1920s are dealt with in this Shanghai Film Studio adaptation of a novel of the same title by Taiwanese writer Lin Haiyin. The film is produced in a lyrical style without much dialogue. It won a grand prize at the 1983 Manila Film Festival and won the best director prize at the 1983 Golden Rooster Awards.
