, C-1991)---Jiao Yulu is a communist Party member and country chief who devotes his life to helping his people become more prosperous during the 1960s. The setting is Lankao County in Hennan Province, which has long been plagued by sandstorms, floods and poor soil. In 1962, the county suffers another natural calamity, but Jiao is determined to save the county from its poverty and backwardness. He works tirelessly, but dies of liver cancer in 1964. After his death he became well known nationally as a model worker. The film was best picture winner of both the Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers film awards of the year. , C-1986, VC) ---Shot mostly on location in the Shanghai Juvenile Discipline Institution, with 18 inmates playing leading roles, this film takes viewers behind the bars to show the internal working of a reformatory school. The film won high acclaim, though some critics thought is t put too much blame on the parents for the Juvenile's delinquent behaviour.
