Olivier Lapidus was born in June 2, 1958 into a Parisien family of established tailors. His grandfather was a tailor and his aunt Rosette Mette ran a garment company called "Torrente".

A 1983 graduate from "L'Ecole De La Chamber Syndicate De La Couture", a well-known designing school, Olivier Lapidus travelled widely before he settled down in Paris in 1987 and made his debut show of ready-made clothes. Each of his shows carries his consistent style--repecting tradition and women's interest which mixes modernist features. In the 1994-1995 Autumn & Winter Silk Garments Display, Olivier Lapidus became the 33rd winner of the "Golden Thimble Award".
